Let the light in…

Personally it’s been an emotional roller coaster of a year, but I get an overwhelming sense that it has been for the world as well. Perhaps as I get older I get more self-aware, and my eyes and heart are more open. I feel a heaviness in the world that is crying out to be lifted.

When I read that Leonard Cohen passed away I cried for what felt like the bajillionth time this year. Yes there have been a lot of highs in 2016, but damn it there have been too many lows.

Cohen said, “There is a crack in everything. That is how the light gets in.” For personal reasons we may feel broken. After this election season, no matter how we feel about the results, I think we all feel a little bruised. Wherever you’re cracked, those are the places light shines in. Wherever you’re cracked is also where the light can shine out to the world around you.

If you need something lovely and beautiful to encourage you, let it be this video. Rufus Wainwright’s cover of Cohen’s “Hallelujah” gives me chills every time. It is one of my favorite things in the world. Truly.

Shine on friends.
